We are surrounded by nature – even in the city. This is a chance to learn and share what Fort Collins and Larimer County offer for observing nature in an urban landscape. In addition to your own backyard, there are city parks, natural areas, open spaces, riparian areas along the Poudre River, and a nearby State Park that provide opportunities for experiencing nature. We will also consider how to foster nature within the urban environment. Invited speakers and class members will present some aspect of nature in an urban setting. Examples include selecting plants that attract butterflies, bees, and other pollinators, planting native species, using xeriscaping to conserve water, reintroducing black-footed ferret and bison at Soapstone, and taking motion-triggered pictures of wildlife at Bobcat Ridge. Come and learn about the many programs conducted as part of the Fort Collins natural areas and the Larimer County open spaces.
