The Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave
Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum

Tuesday June 9, 2015

Continuing with our travel theme of visiting a variety of museums in Central Colorado, we are offering a one-day Boutique-Quality trip on Tuesday, June 9, to two museums in Golden showcasing Colorado history.

We will visit The Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave where the museum houses exhibits interpreting the life, times and legend of William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody and his Wild West Shows which toured all over Europe and North America. In addition to Cody’s memorabilia, many artifacts, including Sitting Bull’s bow and arrows,
firearms of the period, and artifacts of the Old West are on view. His gravesite is located 200 yards from the museum building and the Museum Observation Deck provides an unparalleled view of the Rocky Mountain Front Range and the Great Plains.

We will also visit the Colorado School of Mines Geology Museum which was established in 1874 and displays mineral, fossil, gemstone, meteorite, and historic
mining treasures. We will see more colors here than in any Crayola box. Also on display are two moon rocks brought back by Apollo 17. An outdoor geologic trail features 7 outcrops of geologic and paleontological points of interest including dinosaur tracks. (Note this is not a mining- equipment museum such as we visited in Colorado Springs on an earlier trip. Rather this museum concentrates on things geologic.)

Our final stop will be at Coors Brewery (and tasting room). There will be a short, self-paced walking informational-tour of the brewery and a stop at the Refreshment Center for a little sampling.

Lunch is included at the Table Mountain Inn Cantina which specializes in fresh, award- winning Southwestern and American cuisine in a vibrant Southwestern décor.
