Facilitators: Sara Hoffman and Marty Marsh , 223-8183, firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com Dates: Thursdays, September 17– November 5, 2015 Time: 9:30 AM - 11:30 AM Text: Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands by Chris Bohjalian Presentations: Some class members will lead discussions on the book, and some will give a presentation.
This class will read and discuss the novel Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands by Chris Bohjalian. He is the 2015 Fort Collins Reads author (the 13th year our non-profit has brought an author to town) and will be in Fort Collins on Sunday, November 1, to discuss the book and the writing process. The novel was a 2014 Best Book of the Year for the “Washington Post,” “St. Louis Post-Dispatch,” and “Milwaukee Journal Sentinel” and covers thought-provoking topics, such as child homelessness, mental illness, and nuclear energy. The first person narrator is Emily Shepard, a memorable, feisty, teenage protagonist who loves the poet Emily Dickinson.
During the eight weeks, each class member will lead a discussion of three or four chapters of the book or do research and present on a topic related to the novel. There is a lot to discuss! First time Front Range Forum class facilitators Sara Hoffman and Marty Marsh are on the Fort Collins Reads Committee and look forward to facilitating this class in preparation for the author’s visit. During the class period, we will Skype with the author.
