Sherlock Holmes was embraced by the public when he first appeared in 1887 and his popularity continues today, in print and on the screen. He is credited with launching the genre of detective fiction and with encouraging the development of modern forensic science—an amazing legacy for a fictional character! We will investigate his creation in Victorian England and his contributions to our modern worlds of science and entertainment.
Aside from A Study in Scarlet, other stories (and DVDs) will be selected by individual present- ers. Some books and DVDs will be available for use.
As a grand finale, we are organizing a trip to The International Exhibition of Sherlock Holmes at the Denver Museum of Natural History, tentatively on Monday, November 2.
