Former Secretary of State Madeline Albright says that Fascism not only survived the 20th century, but today presents an even greater threat to peace and stability than at any time since WWII. Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un are now employing the same fascist methods used by Mussolini and Hitler in the 1920's, 30's and 40's. Fascism is both a political ideology and a strategy for gaining and maintaining power. It differs from other forms of dictatorship or totalitarianism and is contrary to all of the principles of democracy.

We will consider the role of social, economic and political changes as factors in Fascism's rise. How do globalization, economic inequality and changes in technology help drive the appeal of fascism? The roles of propaganda, victimhood, nationalism, myth, anti-intellectualism, the judiciary, media and more will be examined. Fascism in America both past and present including the current Alt Right and Anti-Fa movements will be included in our study of the this very real threat to democracy.
