Through this 8-week class we will engage in a deep exploration of the movement which is known as Christian Nationalism; and in doing so we will collectively and individually examine the following thesis:
Christian Nationalism is a … danger to the health and, indeed, existence of democracy in the United States.
This class will be discussion based, and participants will be expected to provide brief reports on topics/entities that arise in the discussion of our readings or in reported current events or related topics of personal interest. Each week the designated reading in the well-researched and respected book, The Power Worshippers…, will lead us into consideration of the history of this movement in the United States, its foundational beliefs, and its manifestation in our society today.
There is a wealth of information to be explored, and we will have many questions to which we may have some answers, but some to which we may have no answers.
The Constitution? Religious nationalism? Religion? Not about religion? Faith? Power? Money? Good Will? Compassion? Racist? Exclusionary? Inclusionary?
Note that an atmosphere of civility and respect is expected throughout this class.
