People who are unhoused or at serious risk of becoming homeless have stories as varied as ours. Individuals on street corners or in parks represent only a certain minority of residents living on the edge. Many organizations and service providers have developed programs to address the broad array of issues to assist people toward their goals of thriving despite their history and life challenges.

During this 6-week class, data and background information from a variety of county sources and organizations will be presented. The challenges of mental and physical health issues, housing, overnight shelter, basic services, job search, living on the street, and resource navigation will be explored in depth. Each week, an issue will be highlighted and a local service provider or organization representative will present insights from their direct work with the homeless and those on the edges in our community. Current best practice approaches include a focus on trauma informed care and Housing First. How are these used by the various agencies, and are they effective and achievable? Questions and challenging discussions will be required.
