Course Description:

Peter Singer is an Australian philosopher and professor emeritus of bioethics at Princeton University. He is one of the best-known living philosophers writing about practical and applied ethics, including animal rights, global poverty, medical ethics, environmental responsibility, and other public issues.

Ethics in the Real World: 90 Essays on Things That Matter is a collection of Singer’s short essays written for general readers. No deep background in philosophy is needed. Singer is clear, provocative, and often controversial. The aim of the course is not to agree with him, but to use his essays as starting points for discussion, objections, and counterarguments.
