A Stephen Sondheim Summer

Join us as we explore the life and work of one of Broadway’s greatest legends of the twentieth century—Stephen Sondheim. Whether you are a Sondheim enthusiast or neophyte, this summer musical program is for you. Each Thursday for six weeks, we will present one of Sondheim’s filmed artistic achievements followed by an audience
discussion. Facilitators for the discussions include Judith Eastman, Bob Braddy, Morris Burns, Joel Rutstein, and Jan Gilligan.


June 22 -- Six by Sondheim, an HBO documentary, looks at the composer-lyricist who redefined musical theater.


June 29 -- West Side Story, the 1961 Academy Award winning film adaptation of Leonard Bernstein's and Stephen Sondheim’s 1957 Broadway production, stars Natalie Wood, Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, and Russ Tamblyn.


July 6 -- Follies in Concert, the 1971 musical, is recreated by an unparalleled cast, including Carol Burnett, Betty Comden, Barbara Cook, Mandy Patinkin, and Elaine Stritch.


July 13 -- Company, a concert version with the New York Philharmonic, features Neil Patrick Harris, Patti LuPone, Stephen Colbert, Jon Cryer, and Christina Hendricks.


July 20 -- Into the Woods, this original Broadway production, featuring Bernadette Peters and Joanna Gleason, is a fusion of fairy tale characters and what happens ever after.


July 27 -- Sunday in the Park with George, focuses on Georges Seurat's famous painting as the spring- board for this Pulitzer Prize winning musical about art, love, and connections at the heart of relationships. It stars Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin.
